Alabaster Mentalis

The Alabaster Mentalis series by the Ghent artist Sofie Muller (b. 1974) cannot fail to create an emotional impact. Her sculptures of isolated heads show their physical and psychological wounds in a manner that is simultaneously raw and poetic. Craftsmanship and aesthetics engage in a striking dialogue with the irregular alabaster. In these works, Muller subtly depicts the universality of the human condition.
