In Duitsland groeide hij uit tot een wetenschappelijke grootheid en werd hij overladen met prijzen, waaronder de allereerste Nobelprijs voor Scheikunde in 1901. Een gedreven buitenstaander is de eerste biografie van deze geniale en beminnelijke chemicus in meer dan honderd jaar. Rob van den Berg (1961) is fysisch chemicus en wetenschapsjournalist.
